Global Alliance for Africa began in 1997 in response to the number of children and women left vulnerable by the AIDS epidemic in, primarily, East Africa We have continued work for over 25 years since then. A snapshot of projects are listed below:
1997-2005: Supporting women supporting AIDS orphans through microscale self sustaining projects such as clean water wells. Partnerships with religious groups and nurses associations were established. Over 7,000 orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa were served.
2005-2010: Library Program begins, Libraries are established in Kibera unofficial settlement in Nairobi where several million people live without services and in rural Tanzania. These libraries are stocked with textbooks for use by students who cannot afford them. The libraries also serve as a save space in an unsafe environment.
2019- As an outgrowth of our library program we were asked to provide lessons in basic computer literacy. Given our skill set in the library program it was natural to begin a program in which school students in public schools (where little computer infrastructure exists) could learn the skills required by the Ministry of Education in Kenya. This expanded into Tanzania at our rural library, Uganda, and to Morocco and serves as the basis for our digital learning program..
